About the SWC

The Scholarly Writing Collective is a "write-on-site" style accountability group. Participation involves a weekly 3-hour meeting for writers to focus on their research, with a half-hour of conversation and goal-setting to start off.

The Scholarly Writing Collective is sponsored by the Department of Rhetoric & Writing Studies, the University Writing Center, the College of Humanities, and the Marriott Library.

Our Goals

Based on the models of successful Women Faculty Writing Groups at Indiana University and Texas Tech University, the goals of the Scholarly Writing Collective include:

  • helping scholars to commit to protected, regular blocks of time devoted to writing;
  • providing structure and accountability for scholarly writing;
  • providing writing support;
  • providing a quiet, collegial, and supportive atmosphere for scholarly writing;
  • and fostering a culture of writing at the U.
